Update:Choice Email Delivery Problem Resolved 3-20-09

Greetings University Community,

Choice has informed Information & Technology Services that this issue is now resolved. ITS technical staff conducted testing and confirms that email from Choice Communications is now deliverable.

Technology Update: Choice Communications is still continuing their effort to resolve the issue with undeliverable email to uvi.edu domain. ITS will provide updates as they become available.

Please be advise that if you have Choice Communications as your internet service provider and are using their e-mail service choice.vi,viaccess.net, or islands.vi, then email to and from the uvi.edu domain will be bounced back immediately with a system administrator undeliverable message. Choice Communications is working diligently to resolve this issue. ITS will provide the University Community with another update on the progress of this issue as soon as one is available.

Update:Choice has email delivery problems with ViAccess/ Islands.vi domains

Please note that the information provided below is only directed to persons using Choice Communications as their OFF CAMPUS internet service provider (ISP) and are using their email service to communicate with persons that have a uvi.edu email address. ITS is continuing its efforts to assist Choice Communication with resolving their issue.

Please be advised, Choice Communications is experiencing problems with email addresses using the choice.vi, viaccess.net, or islands.vi domains. Emails to and from the uvi.edu domain to the Choice listed domains are returned to the sender as undeliverable. Information & Technology Services is aware of the problem and is working with Choice Communications to resolve this issue. An update on the status of this issue will be provided by 3:00 pm today.

Introduction of Reference Chat and Information Literacy and the Library 101.

Greetings Colleagues,

In celebration of Charter Week 2009, UVI Libraries will launch two new resources on Friday, March 20, 2009. We are delighted to introduce Reference Chat and Information Literacy and the Library 101.

The Reference Chat service will be available to assist with short library or research-related questions. It allows you to ask questions and get answers, in real time.

The BlackBoard course named "Information Literacy and the Library 101" will serve as the primary starting point for library and online resources used for academic research. This course will automatically be made available to all UVI BlackBoard users on their individual start pages.

Please look out for further updates and announcements regarding both of these resources.

Technology Update: Choice and UVI.edu websites

Greetings Colleagues,
Since Friday afternoon, customers who use Choice as their Internet Service Provider have not been able to get to uvi.edu websites from off campus. The ITS Enterprise Network Services have spoken to both the technical director and the Choice engineer responsible for resolving the problem and they have confirmed this is a Choice issue. Choice was able to recently resolve the problem and the effect should take about 48 hrs to take full effect.

Technology Update: Virus Alert

Greeting Colleagues,

Please be aware that an extremely dangerous malicious virus is circulating on the internet. The virus is called Antivirus 360 also know as XP Antivirus, Antivirus 2009, Antivirus 2010, Antivirus 360 are all fake antivirus or antispyware software that tricks users into buying or installing it by pretending the computer is infected. PLEASE DO NOT CLICK ON IT or agree to install it on your computer. Just close it and ignore the imaginary warnings. Then call the help desk at ext. 1466 to report it.

Please note, that F-Secure or AVG will detect it but not disinfect it. A utility or application is needed in order to remove it. If you believe that you have accidently downloaded this virus, please call the helpdesk immediately to have the utility/application ran on your workstation.
