Logon and Password Process New/Return Students
The Office of the CIO would like to make you aware of changes in the logon and password process for new and returning students. We hope by sharing this information you will be able to assist students with any issues they have. This information is being sent to students via their email address in Blackboard; it is being given to them during orientation sessions; and it is being posted in computer labs and the libraries.
As a result of the first phase of the Identity Management project, which improves security and simplifies the logon process, students are now able to use their banweb nine-digit id to logon to both Blackboard and the UVI network and computer labs. All students, both incoming and returning, will use the default password of “welcomeuvi” for Blackboard and the UVI network. Students will be prompted to change their password the first time they logon to these systems. Students can visit id.uvi.edu for more details on their logons and initial passwords. Once passwords are changed they are not reflected at id.uvi.edu and students will need to call the helpdesk if they forget their passwords.
All student accounts for the UVI network and Blackboard will be activated no later than 8:00 am Monday, August 18, 2008. For returning students, their old accounts will not work. They must use the nine digit id to logon.
The next step in the identity management project is to use a single logon and password for all three systems. Information on this step will be forthcoming from ITS. In the mean time students can use the same password for all systems if they choose. If you have any questions regarding this information please contact our helpdesk at helpdesk@uvi.edu or call ext. 1466.
Examples:
Network/Computer Lab Access (New & Returning Students)
User Name: Nine digit UVI ID number
Password: welcomeuvi
Blackboard Course Management System/blackboard.uvi.edu (New & Returning Students)
User Name: Nine digit UVI ID number
Password: welcomeuvi
Ban Web / BUCSS Services/banweb.uvi.edu
(New Students)
User ID: Nine digit UVI ID number
Pin : Pin number (Birthday YYMM)
(Returning Students)
User ID: Nine digit UVI ID number
Pin : Use existing pin
